The impact of Hurricane Helene

“Last Friday, our home lost grid power along with most of WNC when the remnants of Hurricane Helene hit our region. The backup batteries installed by Sugar Hollow immediately kicked in and provided power for the house. The solar panel system installed by Sugar Hollow recharged the batteries to 100% by late afternoon during each day we were disconnected from the grid. Our neighbors and friends used outlets at our house to recharge their communications devices, our WI-FI connection to communicate with their families and friends, and our refrigerator/freezer to preserve food when we were surrounded by water, damaged roads, and broken power lines.
The backup batteries allowed me to respond to messages from my family and friends from outside the area who watched footage of the storm and were worried about my family. In addition, I was able to use the remaining power to work without experiencing the extended interruptions that are harming our people and their businesses in this beautiful place.

While there were trees down everywhere, including one on our home, that was one thing we didn't have to think about.”

To return a small bright spot in your day, I wanted to let you know that we are surprised (my husband) and thrilled (me) that our solar panels and battery kept us running without any break in service since Friday, 9/27.  While we didn't have hot water, all urgent needs (refrigerator, chest freezer and water pump) kept going and we even had many luxuries - stovetop, microwave, lights, outlets (which gave us internet and cell signal boosters once those services were restored).  Our grid power came back on at 3:30 yesterday (10/5).  Happy to have a hot shower but grateful that we didn't have the same issues that our neighbors had - no water, fridge, freezer, lights, cooking, etc. without a roaring generator.  And most only ran the generators for a few hours a day to keep their food cold while conserving gas. So, thank you very much for making our 8 days without power much more bearable. We were the envy of the neighborhood.

First of all, I want to say thank you for the quality work that you do. Our system performed flawlessly throughout the storm and its aftermath. We may have been the only home in our neighborhood that never lost power to our refrigerator and other essentials. Thank you!
