Choosing Solar and Battery Backup With Sugar Hollow Solar

What is Battery Backup

When searching for solar panel installation you will often see recommendations for home battery backup units, also referred to as energy storage solutions, solar batteries or simply battery backup. Besides the many aliases and terms surrounding them, battery backup is a simple answer to one of our most common questions; how can I keep my home powered with solar if there are blackouts?

Battery Backup lets you store the energy your solar panels create, and you can choose when and where to use it. For some clients, battery backup is a means of reducing their energy costs due to time-of-use billing. For other clients it means keeping critical systems in their home operating  when the power is out, such as freezers, well pumps, and medical equipment. While other clients aim to have their whole home ready to operate without power for days at a time with larger battery backup systems.

When it comes to battery backup systems, we’re proud to be able to offer you a range of systems so we can help find the right solution for you and your home. With the commitment to helping our customers reach their solar and energy goals, we’re excited to add another trusted battery backup solution to our offerings.

Before you continue, you should note that we discuss battery storage in kWh. kWh is short for Kilowatt-hours, the standard unit of measurement for how much power an electrical device consumes. All power bills are measured in kWhs in the US. The average American household uses around 30 kWh a day.

FranklinWH Joins our List

Two Trusted Options

FranklinWH joins Tesla as our second battery backup option. With these three choices we’re proud to be able to offer our clients more options when choosing to backup their homes.

Since we’ve already covered FranklinWH’s offerings, let's take a look at Telsa’s battery option as well.

Tesla Powerwall 3

Tesla is one of the best known names in the battery backup world. Undoubtedly you’ve heard mention of the Powerwall 3 if you’ve been looking to backup your home.

In 2023, Tesla customers avoided releasing over 20 million metric tons of CO2e into our atmosphere. That’s roughly equivalent to 330,701,720 tree seedlings grown for 10 years, or 128,268 acres of U.S. forests preserved from conversion to cropland in one year

As a Tesla Certified Premier Installer we’re happy to report that we’ve regularly been the 3rd to 4th largest installer of Powerwalls in the south east. With their latest home backup battery: the Tesla Powerwall 3, we’re able to offer another great battery choice.

The Powerwall 3 offers customers:

  • 13.5 kWh of energy storage for a single unit.

  • Stackable up to 4 units offering a total of 54 kWh storage.

  • The Powerwall 3 has a built-in inverter as well.

  • Maximum continuous discharge power of 11.5 kW AC.

  • A companion app for monitoring and changing load management.

  • Automotive grade LFP battery cells.

  • A 10 year warranty.
